Unseen Graves

The Lord said: "Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb, but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.  These you should have done, without overlooking the others. Woe to you Pharisees! You love the seat of honor in synagogues
and greetings in marketplaces.  Woe to you! You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."

Being like unseen graves is quite the description for someone.  That person is dead to those around him or her.  These are the people who think of themselves as better than those around them and isolate themselves from those who are so-called lower class.   They “pay no attention to love for God.”

With Halloween approaching we can envision our walking through a darkened graveyard with difficult-to-see open graves.   Watch our steps!   Life can be like traversing these deep pits in darkness.  The light to find our away between the hidden markers and stones without falling in is provided by Christ.

We all seek honor and to be recognized.  That’s perfectly normal, but not to be overdone.    We need to be alive to those around us, and that happens when we rise from our unseen graves to be seen as followers of Christ who do not judge, who love God, and who never overlook the others.
