Thrones And Scales

As I watched: Thrones were set up and the Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was bright as snow, and the hair on his head as white as wool; his throne was flames of fire, with wheels of burning fire. A surging stream of fire flowed out from where he sat. Thousands upon thousands were ministering to him, and myriads upon myriads attended him. The court was convened, and the books were opened.

As the visions during the night continued, I saw: One like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven. When he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the one like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away; his kingship shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14)

Today is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and we hear of “one like the Son of Man.” who receives dominion, glory, and kingship with everyone serving him.  His control – his dominion – cannot be taken away.  Of course, Daniel had no clue about Jesus who Gospel writers identified as this Son.

Those who we have exalted to thrones through elections are expected to honor those thrones through good works and to minister to people rather have the people minister to and serve those on the thrones of political stature and responsibility.  Their dominions should last as long as they are as principled as Jesus.  They should behave as if on clouds of heaven rather than start and fuel hell fires.  Fire must not flow from where they sit.

Jesus is supposed to transfigure us by making us more like him especially in terms of love and compassion.  This year the court of public opinion will be held.   We all will open and read the books and pass judgment on those who seek thrones.   Jesus will hold the scales.   How will we balance them as Jesus looks on?
