Word Of God

What’s in a word?  A lot!  For example, in the words of William Barclay, "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.  Jesus is the word of God come into this world.  A word is a means of communication.  If we say Jesus is the word of God, we are saying Jesus is God’s means of communication.  In Jesus, God speaks; Jesus is God’s liaison with us, God’s means of communicating with us."

Again, according to Barclay, "However, a word is more than that.  We should think before we speak.  A word, therefore, is an expression of thought.  If we say Jesus is the word of God, we say that Jesus is the expression of the thought of God.  If we want to see what God is thinking, we look at Jesus Christ.  If we want to see how the mind of God works, we look at Jesus Christ.  If we want to get an insight into what we might call the dynamic personality of God, we look at Jesus Christ.  If we say Jesus is the word of God, we are saying that Jesus is God’s means of communication, and that Jesus is the expression of the thought of God."

Do we think before we speak?  Are we means of God's communication?  Are we expressions of the thought of God?  Jesus is not alone in this matter.

Some of us might say, "How can we be the word of God? That's Jesus, not us!"  That's an understandable question.  Nevertheless, limiting the word to Jesus shortchanges the extent to which we can rise on God's behalf.

When we follow someone it's usually because we like what we see and hear.  We will repeat what our leader says and spread his or her words.  That's the way it is for us with Jesus enabling us also to be sons and daughters of God.  Think about it.
