Chum

Too many of us have this attitude towards our neighbors who we are supposed to love as ourselves.  We Cape Codders used to great white sharks prowling our shores can appreciate that our being chum is not very ideal.

The better choice consistent with Jesus' commandment is to make our neighbors chum as defined by the English.  A chum is a friend or a pal. [Note: We and our best chums might spend the weekend camping together. The informal word chum is more common in Britain than the US, but we can still talk about our school chums or the new chum we made on a Caribbean cruise or hiking in the woods.]

Let's make our neighbors chums, not bait.
