Looking For God

A monk rode an ox into town and came to a group of people.   The people asked him. “What are you looking for monk?"   He said, “I am looking for an ox.”   They all laughed.

He rode his ox to the next group of people.  They asked him, “What are you looking for monk?”  He said, “I am looking for an ox.”  They all laughed.

He rode his ox to a third group of people.  They asked him, “What are you looking for monk?”   He said, “I am looking for an ox.”

They said, “This is ridiculous.  You are a man riding an ox looking for an ox!"

The monk said, “So it is with you looking for God.”

Are we looking for God this Lent?   We should look within.   The Kingdom of God is within us, according to Jesus.   Looking for God is not the same as looking for lost car keys.

Two anonymous quotes are appropriate: “You would not be searching for God if God had not already found you,” and “Dear God, it is not you who is missing.  It is I.”

This all makes perfect sense for us Catholics and our belief in the Holy Spirit that resides within, as well as without.
