Chariot Ride

...The Spirit said to Philip, “Go and join up with that chariot.” Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” He replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him.

This was the Scripture passage he was reading: Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opened not his mouth. In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who will tell of his posterity? For his life is taken from the earth… (Acts 8:26-40)

Many of us feel like we are sheep awaiting the slaughter.  Such is the legitimate fear caused by the coronavirus – fear especially obvious in assisted living and care facilities for the elderly and health-compromised.  However, unlike the shearer, we are not and will not be silent.

We continue to open our mouths to protest poor, ill-advised government decisions about relaxing social distancing and risking another spike in infections and deaths.  Too many people – loved ones – already have been taken from the earth.

Do our government leaders not understand what they are reading and hearing about the science of epidemics from the experts instructing those who should rely on their expertise and experiences?

None of us want to join up with and jump on the angel of the Lord’s chariot to be swept away.  Unfortunately, some government leaders seem to be saying, “Hop on board and have a seat.”
