Sowing Seeds

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.” (Matthew 13:36-43)

On one hand, we have Jesus who sows the good seeds.  On the other, we have the Devil – the enemy, the Evil One who sows weed seeds.  These good and bad seeds are thrown across the world and its fields where they compete for space and control be it peace or war.

There has been a lot of spreading in the United States of America – the land of the free and home of the brave – or so we believe and hope.  We are a great nation, but some would say we are burning with fire especially in 2020.  It’s not the end of the age, yet.

We appear to be a nation at war with itself with politics being the fertilizer for both good and bad seeds.  But Jesus is the gardener hoping for a good harvest.  He only sows the good but knows that with every bag of seeds, bad ones do get mixed in.

The harvesters are angels, according to Matthew interpreting Jesus.  These angels will collect all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.  I suspect they also will collect those who turn a blind eye to sinners – blindness caused by their cowardice and failure to be righteous.
