Watchman

Thus says the LORD: You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel; when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me. If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall surely die,” and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way, the wicked shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked, trying to turn him from his way, and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his guilt, but you shall save yourself. (Ezekiel 33:7-9)

Ezekiel tells us not to be lackadaisical.  When we see or hear wickedness, we are to rebuke that person (or group) hopefully through the power of persuasion using facts, truth and appealing to Catholic morality made clear through the life and teaching of Jesus, our Christ.  This is true especially for those of us acting as watchmen and watchwomen for the house of America where wickedness is common.  Racism is one stark example.

We must confront our brothers and sisters for the wrong they are doing, wickedness for which they will “die.” We must look into our own hearts as well.  That’s how we save ourselves, by examining our consciences.  If we do not we will be responsible for our own deaths, figuratively.

Jesus is our watchman.  Feel his stare?  Feel his breath?
