Prochrists

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. Thus we know this is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number. But you have the anointing that comes from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I write to you not because you do not know the truth but because you do, and because every lie is alien to the truth. (1 John 2:18-21)

It is the last day of the year, and many antichrists have appeared. They have come in numbers.  And, they lie.  They are alien to the truth.

Truth is not what we want to believe.   It is what is.  It is reality we must accept, or we can choose to be delusional and embrace lies that support our pre-existing beliefs however inaccurate or fictional they may be.

Antichrists are those who are alien to the truths espoused by Jesus, our Christ.  Those who divide and promote violence are antichrists.  Those who spread lies through social media are antichrists.  Those who will not feed the hungry and help the poor are antichrists.  There are many ways to identify antichrists.

Fortunately, the vast majority of us understand what it takes to follow Jesus, even though we know it is the hard-to-navigate narrow path.   Tomorrow is the first day of 2021, so our New Year's resolution should be to diet from selfishness and lies. With that weight off our bones, the path won’t seem so narrow; we can easily pass through; and we will be prochrists.
