R. Kindness and truth shall meet: Show us, O LORD, your mercy, and grant us your salvation. Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him, glory dwelling in our land.
R. Kindness and truth shall meet: Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven.
R. Kindness and truth shall meet: The LORD himself will give his benefits; our land shall yield its increase. Justice shall walk before him, and salvation, along the way of his steps.
R. Kindness and truth shall meet.
Today’s responsorial psalm speaks of a meeting between two attributes: kindness and truth. We all should attend that meeting especially because there will be kissing, and who doesn’t like a kiss? Justice and peace shall kiss in what we would envision as in a loving embrace.
Not all meetings go well, and many people don’t like meetings at all. Therefore, getting kindness and truth and then justice and peace to meet may seem like a fools’ errand especially after the “mob’s” January 6 insurrection in the Capitol. But now we have a new Administration and leadership. We pray the “LORD himself will give his benefits and our land shall yield its increase,” safety, prosperity, and unity. Amen.
