Wisdom Versus Stupidity

Jesus said to his disciples, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”

He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” (Mark 4:21-25)

Let’s bring light to every situation; in other words, let’s promote understanding and wisdom as opposed to ignorance.  Ignorance of the facts and reality leads to more ignorance; that is, the measure with which we measure will be measured out to us.  Stupid is as stupid does.

Knowing what is true, enlightens us, and our eyes open.  Our blindness is gone provided we take measures to be smart and aware of those deceiving us for their advantage and profit.

When we deceive ourselves (or others deceive us), our lights remain under bushel baskets and hidden.  Our “lamps” (brains) must be made visible meaning we all must grow in wisdom and understanding, and when we do, more will be given to us.  Our lights will shine more brightly for others to see, and for us to see. Similar to turning on our car’s headlights on a dark evening, we will see farther ahead and even travel faster.  Our blindness will be gone.

In today’s contentious political climate, sheltering and hiding under baskets causes us to be blind to evil in the darkness we also help create through ignorance of the agendas of those wishing to take us away – to do their bidding.  Jesus insists that those of us with ears to hear ought to hear meaning: to the one who has [wisdom], more will be given.  To those wishing to remain stupid, more will be taken away.
