Power Of The Wicked

I hear the whisperings of many: “Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!” All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. “Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail and take our vengeance on him.” But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked! (Jeremiah 20:10-13)

Too many of our adversaries are on the watch for any misstep of ours. They seek to trap us and take vengeance on us.  It's tragic they wish to terrorize us through lies and misrepresentations often conveyed through social media.

Jealousy is one motivation for those traps.  Strong differences of opinion, on politics, for example, are another. We hope they will fail and be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

Fortunately, the LORD is with us, like a mighty champion: our persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.  That is our hope and expectation.

To be rescued from the power of the wicked demands our attention, our watchfulness.  We fall into traps when we naively believe good will always prevail.  Not always, unless we are just; we entrust our cause with the LORD; and the LORD’s testing of our hearts gives us a passing score.  There is no guarantee we will prevail, but the odds become greatly in our favor.
