Gun Violence

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.

So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” (John 16:20-23)

So many children dead from gun violence!  We weep and mourn for them, while the NRA and politicians they “own” rejoice in solid opposition to gun control measures – even background checks.  Joy has been stolen from so many families.

Some have said to lock all school doors except one, and post armed officers at that one access point.  Our children are victimized by such foolish measures diverting attention away from serious debate and decisions about gun control measures, even for semi-automatic weapons that serve no other purpose than making the armed feel more powerful and in control.

Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.”  We ask for our children’s safety and reasonable precautions addressing mass murders through easy access to killing machines.  We ask, but we will not receive.  Supporters of easy access do not hear the Father.
