Just Do It

While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” (Luke 11:27-28)

It’s a short Gospel, but right to the central point of our faith.  We are to listen to the word of God – to Jesus – and then act accordingly, meaning, as used by Nike in its commercials, we are to “Just do it!”  We are to be courageous and overcome obstacles.

Blessed are those who truly follow Jesus and apply his commandments to our daily lives. Too many of us respond with: “Not quite yet” or “It’s too hard.”  These are quite normal and expected reactions.

Let’s do all of our blessed mothers proud – those ladies who carried us in their wombs (some of us nursed).  We were all born for a reason, that is, to do the will of God – to be in the image of God.  When we reflect that image, we are blessed.  If not, the woes come to mind.
