I find it a bit strange that the wording of psalms can change from one version to another. For example, in the morning pray for yesterday’s Liturgy of the Hours psalm 85 read in part:
“Mercy and faithfulness have met; justice and peace have embraced. Faithfulness shall spring from the earth and justice look down from heaven.
The Lord will make us prosper and our earth shall yield its fruit. Justice shall march before him and peace shall follow his steps."
The differences remind us that Hebrew words from the distant past when translated into other languages such as Greek and Latin take on different meanings. Peace instead of salvation is one difference. “Justice shall walk before him, and salvation, along the way of his steps” versus “Justice shall march before him and peace shall follow his steps.” There is a marked difference in meaning between salvation and peace as they pertain to Jesus.
Which version should we use? Take your pick. But remember, there's a world of difference especially as it pertains to atonement.
