Permanent Diaconate

When it comes to the Raven in the Bible, there are many other instances where the raven is used as a symbol of Strength, Resilience, and Survival. In Genesis 8:7 God sends a pair of ravens to feed Elijah after he has been fasting for 40 days and nights in the wilderness.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, a Dove is a symbol of Reconciliation, Forgiveness and Peace. In the book of Genesis, after the flood, a dove returned to Noah holding an olive leaf. To hear the cooing of a mourning dove can be understood as a call to seek and find inner peace.

Congratulations to David Laird and Richard Fish!  Both are being ordained as Permanent Deacons later today.  May they always fly high and far with the doves and ravens.  The Holy Spirit will be their wings.

Deacon David Pierce
