January 6

On January 6, 2021, the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. was attacked by a mob of supporters of then U.S. president Donald Trump, two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Trump knew the assault was happening but did nothing to stop it.  He expressed his love for the mob.  These are facts.  He likely will be the Republican nominee in an attempt to return him to the Presidency in 2024.

I realize there are many supporters of Trump throughout our nation and certainly at Christ the King.  I find that to be startling in light of what he did and continues to do.

All are welcome to cast their votes the way they wish – a casting likely influenced by the social media we view and to which we contribute.  Votes are also influenced by our cable news choice.  I suggest we also be influenced by the USCCB document: “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship – A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States” especially about making moral choices.

Politics are divisive and corrosive.  We all should resist that temptation to divide and corrode.  Politics separate people; Jesus unifies people.  Therefore, we followers of Jesus clearly are challenged.
